Chesterfield have turned down a bid from Portsmouth for midfielder Gary Roberts.
Pompey want the 31-year-old to follow in Paul Cook’s footsteps and join the former Spireites boss at Fratton Park.
However, Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner has confirmed a bid from the south coast club has been rejected.
Roberts joined the Spireites in the summer of 2013 and was an instrumental figure in the League Two title season.
The former Swindon and Huddersfield man again showed his worth this term in League One with eight goals from midfield.
