The Derbyshire Times understands that the 30-year-old has been informed that his future lies elsewhere.

Jones arrived at the Proact in May 2014 and has made 76 appearances in an injury-hit spell as a Spireite.

He played 40 games in his first season, helping Town to reach the League One play-off semi-finals.

But last season he suffered a severe ankle injury that kept him out of over half the campaign.

Jones returned to action back in August as a second half substitute against Swindon, but the injury flared up again and kept him out until February.

Under new manager Gary Caldwell the former Sheffield Wednesday man has been in and out of the side.

He’s unlikely to be the only senior player making an exit this summer, Caldwell having indicated he wouldn’t be seeking to keep many of the squad who have suffered League One relegation.
