Lewis Walker, a Derby County prospect who might have been a loan addition to Allen’s Chesterfield squad, impressed the boss during his pre-season friendly appearances.

“Young Walker, I thought he did extremely well on Saturday (at Nuneaton) but at the moment I just can’t bring him in,” said Allen.

“He’s a good player, he’s going to be a very good player.

“I think with hard work and development programme, with upper body strengthening, he’s certainly got something.

“He had a great attitude and desire but at the moment it wasn’t right for us to bring him in.”

The striker is the son of former England international Des and the brother of Nottingham Forest forward Tyler, who has joined Mansfield on loan for the season.
