Chesterfield 5, Heanor Town 3
A second-half hat-trick from Scott Boden booked Chesterfield FC’s ticket to the quarter-finals of the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup.
East Midlands Counties Premier League side Heanor took a fourth-minute lead through Nathan Benger before Jordan Burrow made it 1-1.
There was another surprise for the home team when a Josh Royce goal gave Heanor a 2-1 half-time lead.
Boden, pictured, equalised the scores shortly before the hour and Burrow gave Chesterfield the lead prior to Boden adding a second to make it 4-2.
With two minutes remaining Heanor’s Rocky White pulled one back but Boden completed his hat-trick with a header in time added on.
Spireites coach Mark Crossley paid tribute to the visitors for pushing the Blues all the way.
He said: “Well played by the lads from Heanor who gave it a real go and made this a very competitive cup tie.”
Heanor Town’s joint manager Glenn Kirkwood, a dedicated Chesterfield FC follower, said: “I am so proud of my players for putting up a great show against professional footballers to make it a night we will all remember for very long time.”
Chesterfield striker Jack Lester was due to play in a bid to boost his match fitness but he had to be left out after contracting a virus.
The team fielded by Chesterfield was: Fleming, Darikwa, Needham (Dennis 80), Mattis, Watkin (Clarke 76), Gray, Clay, Niven, Wafula (Hazel 78), Boden, Burrow. Sub not used: West.
