Blues held at Barnet

Barnet 2, Chesterfield 2

League Two leaders Chesterfield FC lost a two-goal lead at struggling Barnet in a frenetic game on Underhill’s sloping pitch.

John Sheridan’s men were comfortably in front thanks to Deane Smalley’s tenth of the season scored after 21 minutes and a Craig Davies peach 30 seconds into the second-half.

The Bees, led for the first time by new manager Martin Allen, pulled one back through sub Sam Deering six minutes later, a crisp 25-yard shot after he rode a challenge from Mark Allott.

And the same man net the leveller in the fourth of seven additional minutes with a cross that deceived keeper Tommy Lee who thought the ball was going out.

Manager Sheridan said: “The two goals we scored were very good but I want to look at the ones we conceded again. I’m not putting blame on anyone, we’re a team and we’ll take it. It was a great opportunity to get the three points.’’

Chesterfield: Lee; Talbot, Holden, Robertson, Griffiths; Smalley, Allott, Whitaker, Djilali (Mattis 68); Morgan (Lester 85), Davies. Subs (not used): Redmond, Breckin, Morris, Bowery, Niven.
