More than 3,000 spectators made their voices heard at the Proact Stadium to cheer on English football’s stars of tomorrow.
England U17s took on their Slovenia counterparts on Monday (March 23) and ensured their place in this summer’s UEFA European Under-17 Championship with a 3-1 win.
The Young Lions came flying out of the blocks and goals from captain Reece Oxford, Nathan Holland and an own goal fired them in to a commanding half-time lead.
The victory meant England U17s finish top of their Elite Round qualifying group even with a game still to play; Romania at Burton on Thursday (March 26).
Head coach John Peacock guided the Young Lions to Euro success last season and boasts a 100 per cent record from the qualifiers to date.
“I thought it was great,” said Peacock. “I have to say we always enjoy coming to Chesterfield, we get great support and I thought the crowd were fantastic.
“We gave them a few goals to shout about which is good news and hopefully we’ll be back here again in the not to distant future.
“The facilities are excellent and the pitch is in good condition for this time of the year. The stadium is excellent, the crowd were great and we won so we can’t be too disappointed.”
