The Lions came from a goal down to notch victory. Sam Morsy deservedly put Spireites ahead on 25 minutes to cap a real purple patch of play, the skipper hammering home his first goal since September from 30 yards. But the home lead was soon nullified as Aiden O’Brien headed home from Shane Ferguson’s cross.

Millwall managed a shot 20 seconds into the second half, Steve Morison forcing Lee to save, but that warning went unheeded as Jed Wallace set up Lee Gregory to put Millwall ahead just a minute or so later.

Morsy, with another distance effort, saw Jordan Archer scramble the ball clear from right on the line and the keeper’s chest was vital in keeping a stooping header from sub Byron Harrison out.

The stats show more possession, more shots and more corners for the hosts, no-one in a blue shirt didn’t give their best but Spireites long-term inability to avoid clean sheets again haunted them and, with no match for a fortnight, that issue will be the major feature on the training ground and possibly in the transfer market.

Millwall had lost their last five visits to Chesterfield, but this was their first appearance at the Proact Stadium.

Chesterfield were without injured Chris Herd and Ollie Banks, but Charlie Raglan passed a late fitness test and Gboly Ariyibi wasback after suspension. Drew Talbot also started while Dan Gardner, who started in the defeat at Wigan, was on the bench.
