Central Midlands: Magnificent seven for Clay Cross as FC Bolsover play first ever fixture

Saturday saw Clay Cross Town open their new season at Mill Lane with a resounding 7-0 victory over Bilsthorpe FC.

The opening goal could have come as early as the third minute but Ant Lynam fired his penalty over the crossbar.

It was Lynam though that did get the first goal on 14 minutes. Tomas Poole secured number two just two-minutes later after a fine passing move.

When Greg Fitzpatrick scored the third from the penalty spot it looked to be all over but Bilsthorpe rallied back into the game and two good saves from Charlie Clayton and the woodwork kept the visitors at bay. After the break the Millers found their scoring boots again and goals from Ryan Watters, Callum Lytham, Aiden Ordidge and Lee Clay secured a very pleasing result for the home supporters.

The Millers travel to South Yorkshire and face Phoenix FC this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Elsewhere in CMFL North, newcomers FC Bolsover began life with a 2-0 defeat at home to Appleby Frodingham. In a day that will be remembered as the club’s first in its history they were unable to get the three points to match. They travel to Welbeck Lions on Tuesday (7.45pm).
