And Campbell-Ryce believes the fixtures present a chance for Chesterfield to pull away from the bottom four.

“This is the business end of the season,” he said. “This is where we’ve got to go and earn our corn.

“We’re playing against teams who are in and around us so we’ve got to make sure we pick up points.

“If ever there was a chance to put clear daylight between ourselves and the bottom it’s this weekend.

“We’re working hard on the training field to make sure we’re right both physically, mentally and tactically for the games ahead.”

His goal on Saturday, seconds after entering the action - and hours after arriving at the club, earned the Spireites a point away at Scunthorpe United.

“The league is tight this year. Up at the top it is very tight. There are many teams trying to get in to that promotion race.

“It’s the same towards the bottom. Teams are trying to get themselves away from the relegation zone. Every game for every team is a big one.

“Everyone’s fighting for something. We’re all fighting to put points on the board,” he added.

His contract with parent club Sheffield United expires this summer and the experienced attacker is open to a longer stay at Chesterfield.

“The door is always open,” he said. “You can never rule anything out in football. Chesterfield have done brilliantly in the last few years.

“Hopefully I can have a strong finish to the season to help my case as well as help the team.”

Campbell-Ryce is no stranger to Chesterfield, having spent a short spell on loan with the club in 2004.

“I was at the old ground before and I loved every minute of it,” he said. “I was young and eager to make my way in the game.

“Chesterfield gave me that chance and now they’ve got a great new stadium and they’re building things going forward.”
