The Spireites play host to fellow relegation battlers Bury, the League One bad boys with 87 cards to their name this season.

Whilst the Scot has faith in his men to keep hold of the ball, he says they’ll have to contend with an ‘energetic’ opposition.

“I think every game we’ve played in so far we’ve controlled it,” he said.

“I believe we’ll control the game, it’s about how we hurt them in the final third and we’ve worked on that.

“They play with energy and passion, we’re in for a difficult game. We have to match their physicality.”

Bury have this week appointed Lee Clark as manager and that might have made Caldwell’s homework more complicated, but he still feels Town are well briefed on the visitors.

“It makes it a bit more tricky, you have to be prepared for the unexpected,” he said.

“We have to do our homework and look at things the new manager might be prepared to do.

“We’ve all done that, the staff. The team is prepared, they know the different scenarios we expect we could come up against but we’re ready for whatever Bury team we face and whatever they throw at us.”

Bury are the league’s fourth most prolific team and Caldwell expects his defence to be tested – but Chesterfield have to get on the front foot.

“They are a threat, their strikers are a handful, put themselves about and cause you problems,” he admitted.

“We’re at home, I think it’s up to us to take the game to them.
