The club captain has also scooped the Sheffield Star Spireites trophy and the club’s own Player of the Year gong after another solid personal season.

Boss Gary Caldwell is unsurprised: “He’s been fantastic, he was someone I knew having played against him, I knew the quality he had as a football player.

“But until you’ve worked with someone day in and day out you don’t get to know them as a character and he’s been the leader of the club since I’ve been there, the driving force behind what we’ve been trying to do.

“He’s had a good season personally in a bad season for the club.”

The man himself admits it’s been a tough year: “It’s never nice, relegation, they’re never good on your CV.

“I feel like as players we’ve let everyone down, haven’t been good enough.

“Off the pitch at the club things haven’t been ideal but we’ve got to regroup and come back stronger and there’s no doubt we can do that.”

Evatt, who has been offered a new deal at the Proact, believes he can play a part in that comeback: “I believe in myself, I’ve still got plenty to offer, I think I’ve shown that.”
