The club are currently looking to appoint a chief scout or head of recruitment, to fill the gap left by Paul Mitchell in April 2016.

“I need to find someone I can give that responsibility to and that’s his role to set up a department with regional scouts, getting information in, getting a database of players we watch regularly,” said Caldwell.

“Then it comes to myself and the first team staff so we can go and watch players – rather than going in blind, just taking a game in – we can pinpoint certain players who have come through a process that has earmarked them as potential signings for this club.”

Caldwell was ‘amazed’ the club had nothing in place when he arrived.
