Eyre joined the club in February as a first team coach, before being appointed as Caldwell’s assistant manager two weeks ago.

Having worked with the Scot for three months, former Rochdale manager Eyre says he’s impressed with what he sees.

He also believes Caldwell’s track record speaks for itself when it comes to his ability to lead.

“You don’t become captain of all your teams that you play for and have the success he did, or go on and be a first time manager and win League One without leadership,” said Eyre.

“Gary has got really good leadership.

“He’s quite capable of leading on his own or dragging people with him.

“He’s got a fantastic presence and he simplifies the game to the team.”

Eyre spent 21 years in youth development at Manchester City, had a spell as first team boss at Rochdale and was a coach with Huddersfield before joining the Spireites.

He says that experience and the things he’s learned along the way will help him to assist Caldwell as they attempt to put together a squad capable of winning promotion back to League One.

“I’m approaching 30 years in the game and in the job and I like to think I can offer full support to the manager,” he said.

“I enjoy the tactical side, the technical side but most of all I enjoy winning.

“We’re really looking forward to getting a whole new squad together.”
