The Scot, signed in the summer from Dundee, has played just 11 times for the Spireites this season.

He started well, but injured his hamstring against Bury on 24th September.

His first attempt at a comeback lasted just 13 minutes.

The 26-year-old came on in the 77th minute at home to Fleetwood on 18th October and re-injured the same hamstring.

It has since been suggested that he wasn’t ready for that appearance.

Four months on, and after further setbacks,, there might be some light at the end of a dark tunnel.

Manager Gary Caldwell revealed: “He’s hopefully back on the grass on Monday with the physios and then we’ll build him up slowly.

“The previous two times when he’s got to this stage he’s broken down so we have to make sure he’s 100 per cent when he comes back into full training.”

McGinn is one of two right-backs who have been sidelined for long periods of time.

Liam Graham, who made his Football League debut for Town on the same day McGinn first got injured, played six times as a Spireite before badly damaging his knee.

The defender ruptured his ACL in late November while playing for New Zealand against New Caledonia.

When questioned about Graham’s rehabilitation yesterday, Caldwell had little information, but the few words he did say suggested the 24-year-old is not in the club’s short term plans.

“He’s not back yet and I don’t think he’ll come back for the foreseeable future,” he said.
