Buxton 1-4 North Ferriby - match report

Last year’s Evo-Stik Premier Division champions put in a strong performance, with three goals in a short spell during the second-half securing their place in the next round.

Martin McIntosh made two changes to the side which was beaten by Worksop in midweek. Luke Dean and Jamie Green, who suffered concussion during the 4-2 defeat, made way for Lee Morris and Charlie Johnson.

The Bucks made the worst start possible inside just two minutes when Ferriby took the lead.

A ball was flashed across the area by Jamie Yates who paced down the left wing before finding Nathan Jarman inside the area, who thumped a shot emphatically beyond Andy Warrington.

Just after the goal there was an injury worry when Jack Broadhead was pushed into the advertising hoardings behind the goal but the Chesterfield loanee was soon back into action though after brief treatment.

The Bucks stepped up their attacking intent after conceding the early goal. Efforts from Morris went close whilst a couple of tame penalty shouts were dismissed by the referee.

They made an impressive start to the second half with Osborne going close before Yates nearly doubled the advantage for the Skrill North side only to see Warrington claw away his effort.

Luke Dean was then introduced for Buxton and he made an immediate impression when he was bundled down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

Morris stepped up and smashed the ball home to make it 1-1 on the hour mark.

Despite getting the equaliser, Broadhead committed a second clumsy foul within minutes of his first, and he was given a second successive booking to hamstring the Bucks’ attempts at taking the lead.

From the resultant free-kick, the impressive Yates smashed the ball past Warrington to restore Ferriby’s lead.

The visitors then effectively sealed the game 12 minutes from time when substitute Anthony Wilson poked the ball home after a cross was flashed into the area from the left.

With the depleted Bucks low on confidence it was left to Liam King to compound their misery when he smashed a shot beyond Warrington.
