BREAKING: Sam Smith joins Alfreton Town ahead of Bradford Park Avenue clash

Alfreton Town have signed striker Sam Smith on a one-year contract ahead of the 2015/16 Vanarama National League season.

Rotherham-born Smith, 22, is a bustling, busy 6’3” striker who began his career with Handsworth FC Under-19s and progressed to the first team.

A move to Ossett Town and then Parkgate followed before a switch to Worksop Parramore saw him flourish and finish the club’s leading scorer as he netted 34 during the 2014/15 campaign.

He was also the third highest scorer in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Alfreton boss Nicky Law said: “He scored a lot of goals for Worksop Parramore last season, admittedly it is a lot lower league, but if you are a goalscorer, you are a goalscorer, whatever the level you are at.

“He has scored three in pre-season for us, worked well, and I feel he is work in progress. Everyone needs a goalscorer and Sam is one of those who can get the scruffy goals that make a difference.”
