A new team based out of Buxton is pressing ahead with plans to bring Sunday football back to the area.

Buxton Parks Rangers are due to enter the 2014/15 Leek & District Sunday League.

The new team will be based at the Parks Inn at Harpur Hill and will play on the university grounds at Haslin.

At present the Leek League encompasses 14 teams, all playing each other once before the league is split into two, with two sets of seven teams playing each other again.

The organiser behind the initiative, Pete Machin says there is a thirst for Sunday football in the Leek league.

He said: “What you must always remember is that there is no Saturday league in Leek, to compare with the Hope Valley.

“So unless you play out of the area, it is all about Sundays.”

• The new team will be staging a committee meeting at the Parks Inn this coming Sunday at 12.30pm.
