The goalkeeping coach has taken a lead role in negotiating the exits of those deemed surplus to requirements by the Chesterfield manager.

The likes of Scott Wiseman, Ricky German, Delial Brewster and Alex Whitmore have all left, but several others are yet to find a new employer or come to an agreement over the remainder of their contract.

Chesterfield are yet to get record earner Chris O’Grady out the door along with veterans Robbie Weir and Zavon Hines.

“They’re all looking for other clubs,” said Allen, by way of an update on the negotiations.

“Carl Muggleton has been working all hours with the agents, with the players, with other clubs.

“Up to now I think it’s only right to say he’s done a fantastic job in cutting the wage bill and freeing up spaces in our squad.

“I’ve been on the phone to him wherever I’ve been to try and help manoeuvre these things.”

Allen is hopeful of being able to confirm further departures in the next week, with the aim of bringing one new player in for every two who go out.

“A couple more deals are imminent for players to leave,” he added.
