The Birmingham striker has spent the season on loan at Chesterfield, and with 13 goals is their leading goalscorer.

Although he is yet to hold talks over his future, Novak insists he’d be all ears if Chesterfield make a proposal.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone,” he said. “I’m here at Chesterfield to the end of the season and whether that continues for longer, that I don’t know.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and if the opportunity to stay came up, if everything was right, I see no reason why I wouldn’t.

“We haven’t had that conversation yet, but hopefully we will.”

Novak cut a frustrated figure during Chesterfield’s last outing, playing the lone striker role for almost 80 minutes before being withdrawn after picking up a slight injury.

But he allayed fears that he will miss any further action: “I got a bit of a knock on my knee, but it was just a precaution coming off, to rest up.

“It’s fine now, I’ve been in training.”

The 27-year-old has come out in support of team-mate Dion Donohue, whose red card cost Chesterfield in Saturday’s defeat by Walsall.

He explained the geture he made towards Donohue as he walked off: “He’s a young lad, not long in the pro game and I remember when I came from non-league – I was just telling him to stay calm, you see players keep going after (red cards).

“He knows he shouldn’t have got sent off, but we will still back him, and he’ll learn from that mistake – he’s a brilliant player.”
