Crouz has rejoined the Nailers after failing to establish himself at Matlock Town and Scarborough Athletic.

And the Belper boss is confident Crouz will add competition for places amongst his frontline and bring a hunger to succeed.

“He scored 15-16 goals in his first season with us and his assists were through the roof, so he was a player we did not want to leave in the first place,” said Black.

“We always want to make sure the lads are hungry. We know they aren't coming back for money because we are one of the worst payers in the league.

“He is hungry to be successful and he can see the work that is being done at Belper on and off the pitch since he was last here.

“He sees how the club wants to progress and was eager to come back to us.

“Once he got over the disappointment (at Scarborough) there was only one place he was going to go and we are over the moon with that bit of quality he will bring.

"It is hard building a squad and we always have to shuffle the pack.

“We have a lot of players who can play in a lot of positions and Piteu will give us more options.”

It brings to an end a long pursuit of his target for Black.

“We spoke to him early in pre-season and he wanted to give it a go at Scarborough with it being a level above,” said Black.

“He knew it wasn't going to work out at the back end of pre-season, so it was a case of getting a deal done as soon as we could.

“He felt a bit deflated with what had happened and wanted a week to re-evaluate.

“We had to respect that so we knew we wouldn’t have him for the first few game, but we were confident we would get him in.”

The new 4G pitch at Belper Town’s ground is closing in on completion, with Black confident it will aid his side’s training options.

"It is just another step in the right direction,” he added. “It is a nightmare trying to organise training at times, if we have to get a venue sorted late on it’s hard to get a good slot.

"This is one less thing to worry about us for us and will help bring in extra finances.”

Belper travel to Glossop North End at the weekend.
