The Spireites boss expects his men to have to deal with a lot of direct play, particularly from set-pieces, in their brand new division.

Critics of last season’s side often pointed to a lack of height and physical presence.

But Allen has already signed 6ft 2ins goalkeper Shwan Jalal, a pair of 6ft 2ins central defenders in Michael Nelson and Will Evans and 6ft 1ins midfielder Sam Wedgbury.

Allen wants Chesterfield to dominate in the air in and around their own penalty area.

“In this division there will be a lot of free-kicks, corners and long throw ins,” the Town manager told the Derbyshire Times.

“We’ve got to make sure we’ve got at least four decent headers of the ball in our team.”
