Alfreton’s John Johnston doubtful for Worcester City clash

The Reds are flying at the minute, and go into the fixture looking to win their fourth league game in a row after managing to put four away and keep a clean sheet against Hednesford Town in their last outing.

Nicky Law’s men have only lost one of their last seven games, and have taken a strong 11 points out of a possible 18 from their last six outings.

After a bit of a slow start to the new season, Alfreton seem to have hit a bit of form now.

In their last outing, they swept aside Hednesford, battering them by four goals to nil. The scoring was opened inside 10 minutes, Jordan Robertson giving the Reds the lead from the penalty spot for his second goal in successive games.

The score stayed at 1-0 until the 62nd minute, Jamie Jackson doubling Alfreton’s lead.

Things then went from bad to worse for Hednesford as Sam Jones bagged two goals inside eight minutes to wrap up an emphatic win for the Reds and sealing a third successive win.

Reds are likely to be without winger John Johnston who exited last Saturday’s game against Hednesford with a suspected Achilles injury. The only other player missing though is skipper Dan Bradley who continues his double suspension.

Worcester on the other hand appear to be struggling. With no win in their last five, and sitting second bottom in the league, they will be looking to start picking up points sooner rather than later.

They drew 2-2 with Curzon Ashton last weekend, going ahead twice through goals from veteran striker Lee Hughes before a late injury time strike from Curzon stole two points off Worcester.

Despite their lowly position, City should not be taken lightly. They have drawn both of their last games and their latest signing is former Burton Albion and Alfreton Town striker Shaun Harrad who, along with Lee Hughes and ex Derby County striker Deon Burton, gives Worcester a vastly experienced strike force.

On the road, City have yet to win but have drawn twice, a 1-1 draw at Gainsborough Trinity on the opening day of the season being added to by a 0-0 scoreline at Stockport County in their last away game on September 5th. Inbetween, they have gone down 3-0 at Solihull Moors and 2-0 at Brackley Town.
