Alfreton Town snap up Sheffield United youngster

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has strengthened his squad further ahead of the Vanarama National League North opener at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

The Reds boss has signed former Sheffield United defender Jason Paling on a one-year contract after the youngster impressed in pre-season training and games.

The 19-year-old Barnsley-born player joined the Blades aged 12 and progressed to play for both United’s U18s and U21 sides as a result of which he was rewarded with a first-year professional contract in the summer of 2014.

During the 2014/15 campaign, Paling went out on loan to Stocksbridge Park Steels for a month but was released at the end of the campaign.

A tenacious and committed performer, he can play either right-back or on the right side of midfield.

Law said: “He is a young lad who was with Sheffield United and did quite well on loan at Stocksbridge Park Steels last season.

“He has come in and done well pre-season, played right-back and also played up in midfield as well.

“He is a steady young lad who we are looking to develop through to progressing into a first team regular.”
