Clay Cross Town’s CMFL South fixture at Mickleover last Saturday was one of the many victims due to the heavy rainfall, but just three days earlier they had progressed into the semi-final of the Floodlight Cup after a great comeback.
They were staring into the jaws of defeat after conceding two goals in the opening five minutes. Danny Boulton scored for Appleby before Chris Sharman added to the misery with an own goal. A string of excellent saves by Millers keeper, Ben Townsend, kept the Millers in the game and on 37 minutes Aiden Ordidge pulled one back. It was end-to-end football in the second half but it was Ordidge again who pulled it level on 47 minutes.
Clay Cross took the lead on 62 minutes when that man Ordidge secured his hat-trick. But the home side continued to keep the game alive by pushing for an equaliser. Clay Cross finally sealed the game in the last minute after a great move saw George Johnson display a cool head in front of goal.
Millers entertain Southwell City (3pm) on Saturday.
