The Gulls came from two goals down to claim a point thanks to late strikes from Armani Little and Tom Lapslie after a double from Kabongo Tshimanga had put the Spireites in control.

“The lads showed a lot of desire and passion in those last seven minutes,” Johnson told torquayunited.com.

“I certainly wasn’t pleased with the rest of our game, although we did create a couple of good chances, but only half-ones.

"They (Chesterfield) dictated the game a little bit, looked a little bit quicker than us, and we didn’t really get going.

"But, we kept our team’s reputation, the manager’s reputation – and my staff’s – and our club’s reputation intact, because in the end, after 88 minutes, this was a very good point.”

The Gulls lost in the play-off final last season and have got off to a slow start this campaign.

Johnson added: “I don’t want to come here and get points at these places, I want to come here to win, and win the game being the best team, and that’s how you win the league. So, we’ve got a little bit to do.

“Our supporters and our team showed their little bit of pride and passion, and I’m very pleased with our players, and I’m proud of our supporters, because we were 2-0 down, and they gave it a bit of a go.”
