Flurry of Buxton AC runners in action

The first race in the North Staffordshire Cross Country League took place recently with some good results for Buxton AC runners.

Steve Watson finished in 11th in the Senior Men’s race over a distance of 10k, in a field of over 200 runners. His time was enough to see him finish as the fastest over-45.

Elsewhere, Rob White was 22nd, newcomer Nigel Jeff had a fine run to finish in 72nd place, and Pete Bailey came home in 176th position.

The Junior Boys in the Under 13 category fielded a full team of four runners, with a fantastic set of results placing them first out on nine teams.

Lucas Parker was third, then Elliot Meylan seventh, Luke Farrant 13th and Jacob Buckley 23rd.

In the Boys Under 11 race, Leo Parker was 31st whilst in the girls, Danielle Watson represented the club at the Under 17 Girls’ event, finishing in 11th place.

Alf Bailey, another debut runner at cross country, took part in the Boys Under 15 race, finishing in 19th place.

Stephen Mellor, the sole Buxton runner in the Under 17 Boys’ event, also impressed finishing in 11th position in his race.

The ladies were also well represented, with 10 runners taking part.

Rachel Chatwin was eighth overall, followed by Annemarie Claye (31st).

Gayle Hammond, new to cross country, made a fantastic start on her race debut by finishing as the third Buxton lady home, after crossing the line in 48th place.

Fourth home was Sheila Bradley (56th), closely followed by Kirsty Forder (57th), Emma Havenhand (69th), Emma Wentworth (70th), Claire Belkadi (86th), Bev Golden (94th) and Jayne Denby (153rd).
