Despite an early-race spin, Perez stormed from the back to grab second place in his 911 GT3 car for the Amigos Team Parker Racing Team.

He had also finished fourth pro-am in the first race of the weekend, which bagged him much-needed points after a disappointing start to the 16-round series at Brands Hatch four weeks earlier. He now heads to the next round in Monza just two points adrift of third place overall in the pro-am category.

Perez said: “It was a really good weekend and to take my first-ever Carrera Cup podium at my home circuit was the icing on the cake.

“The first race was difficult, so the focus was on race two. and I had a good pace from the off.

“The spin was unfortunate. I went for a move that didn’t really work and ended up at the back of the pack. But when the safety car came out, it helped me tremendously. The weekend I had at Brands Hatch was a nightmare, so to get the result here is fantastic.”
