Chesterfield’s Sennan Fielding is toasting a podium finish as he continues to win plaudits in the MSA Formula Championship.
Fielding’s Amigos Tequila Flavoured Beer racing team was back on the podium at Silverstone over the weekend of September 26/27 during the support race programme to the British Touring Car Championship.
Rising young star Sennan was racing in rounds 25, 26 and 27 of the Championship and took a superb second place in the middle race.
Hwoever, he was denied a chance to chase another podium finish in the third race when gearbox problems developed on the first lap.
It was an up-and-down weekend for Fielding who qualified only tenth fastest after a difficult qualifying session.
However, his best lap was only half a second away from pole position.
Once again he raced hard and finally finished sixth in the opening race.
In race two, Sennan delivered a tremendous performance from third on the grid and led the race for many laps.
Only in the closing laps did Ricky Collard force his way ahead.
Sennan said: “Ricky hit me quite hard a couple of times, including on the first lap, which sent me wide.
“Then there was contact at Luffield, where me managed to get in front.”
Sadly, his third race of the weekend ended on the opening lap when further gearbox problems struck and left him crawling slowly round to the pits to retire.
It was a frustrating end to his weekend and he reflected afterwards, saying: “I just hope people can see through the problems we’ve had and see the good pace.”
Fielding now lies fourth in the MSA Formula Championship, with three races left to run.
