Jade Ashmore has been selected for the England Youth Female Boxing squad ahead of international bouts with Scotland and Wales.
The 17-year-old was put through her paces at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield where selectors ran the rule over the national champion.
She endured skills and fitness tests before a full weekend of sparring and intense training to see who would represent England in the ring against Ireland.
Jade won her first bout against Sophie Tierney - Ireland’s silver medallist - and was scheduled to take on Ireland’s undefeated champion Natasha Logan.
Logan pulled out, however, with a chest infection and Cloudagh Commisskey stepped in at the last minute. Jade said: “She was a strong opponent.”
The England team thought she’d done enough to take a points win but the split decision went in favour of the Irish competitor. “All in all, it was a great experience,” added Jade.
Jade will compete in the 54kg category for England in the tri-nation series.
