The England & Wales Cricket Board has announced that Derbyshire will face South Africa in a two-day tour match in August.
The match against Graeme Smith’s side will be played at the County Ground on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August, 2012.
The South Africans currently occupy second place in the Official ICC Test Rankings behind England.
Their touring party is expected to feature big names such as Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Mark Boucher, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.
The match will act as preparation for the tourists ahead of the third and final Test at Lord’s which begins the following Thursday.
Derbyshire chairman Chris Grant said: “We are delighted with the opportunity to host such prestigious international opponents during the summer of 2012.
“Our players will benefit from testing their skills against some of the world’s best, our supporters will have the chance to watch these players in action at the County Ground and there are also commercial benefits from hosting such high profile opposition during an exciting international summer.”
Tickets for the match will go on sale in November.
