Cyclo-cross season to remember for George

Competing on two fronts, the eight-year-old ended up champion in his final year of the Notts & Derby U9s, and, having only just moved up to the West Midlands League U10s, finished a superb second.

“I had set myself the target of winning the NDCXL U9s and finishing in the top three in the WMCCL,” he said.

“Both of these were ambitious targets. In NDCXL I have two very strong club mates for competition and in WMCCL I was competing against riders up to 18 months older than me, one of whom won the NDCXL U9 last year.

“In NDCXL, I won seven of 11 rounds to become the U9 League Champion with maximum available points - you’re allowed to drop some scores.

“My clubmates finished second and third in the league, so we also won the U9 Team Award for Bolsover and District Cycling Club for the second year in a row.

“In WMCCL, I won three rounds out of 15 and finished second in the League, only 10 points behind the winner and 25 points ahead of third.”

“I really didn’t expect to win any WMCCL U10 races, so to win three rounds is a massive achievement that I’m very proud of.”
