There will be a new cycling champion at Hardwick

One week before the Tour de France pays a fleeting visit through the north of the county, top class cycle racing makes a return to the Clay Cross area after a near 20 year long break.

Clay Cross RT are hosting the Hardwick Road Race which will take place on Sunday, June 29 and makes up the fourth round of the season long East Midlands Road Race League.

Covering 52 miles, the field of 60 riders will tackle eight laps of a seven-mile loop taking in Holmewood, Hardstoft, Hardwick and Heath.

The race will start at Hardwick View Road on Holmewood industrial estate at 10am, and is expected to finish just after mid-day on Mill Lane close to Hardwick Park. Runaway league leader and winner of the first three races in the series, Adam Kenway of Belper based Team Zenith-Buzz Cycles, is now unable to compete at this level due to amassing too many points, so the series will see a new winner pull on the winner’s jersey at Sharley Park leisure centre.

The team’s hopes will be on Clay Cross RT’s own Elliott Reynolds, who has been gaining national recognition by winning minor races and regularly placing in the top ten in national junior events recently.
