Dominant Moore rides to thrilling race victory

Manton rider Nick Moore's victory in the second York Sports Village criterium closed-circuit race at York was the highlight as the Andy Moore Autocentres/JEJ Racing Team continued their impressive form.

With several riders rested, Andy Bishop and Moore led the Staveley-based team.

Bishop was unable to break the deadlock in the first of the two afternoon races and despite, several attacks, the Worksop rider finished in the bunch.

Moore, however, provided the team’s performance of the season in a thrilling second race.

An early move from the Manton rider proved decisive.

Two laps in, a lull in pace at the front of the peloton presented an opportunity and Moore reacted instantly, catching the bunch off guard with a crucial attack that catapulted him clear of the group.

Only one other rider joined Moore and they increased the distance to the peloton to more than 30 seconds.

In a disciplined ride, Moore held back for a final attack and crossed the line with a comfortable margin over the chasers.

More team celebrations followed at Oulton Park, where young Stanfree star Aaron Chambers-Smith was third at the TLI National Youth Championship event after a final-lap sprint.
