Cycling quartet take pole position

As Bakewell played host to the weekend’s l’Eroica Brittania Event amid warmth and sunshine, several riders headed south to Gloucestershire to compete in the Wiggle Mountain Mayhem 24-hour endurance mountain bike race.

Held at the home of HRH Princess Anne in Gatcombe Park, and advertised as the world’s largest endurance mtb event, the gruelling race took place over a dry, warm weekend - a contrast to last year’s wet and cold event.

After many hours in the saddle the hot, tired and dusty riders collected their trophies from the Princess Royal.

Competing as Velo Vets, the Matlock Cycling Club’s Marianne Heffron and Christine Howard, plus Judith Gilchrist and Emma Martin were the winning four in the Sport Women’s category.
