It has been a winning week again for Clay Cross RT, as Joe Clark notched up the team’s seventh win of the season with success in the Thursday round of the Mallory Park series.
Joe - still in his debut year racing - broke away with two laps to go in the 30-mile event to cruise home with a 20 second advantage over the chasing pack.
After a number of impressive rides already this season, including a second place two weeks ago, this is a rider to watch over the coming season.
Saturday saw a strong turnout at Darley Moor race track near Ashbourne in the fifth round of the road race series.
In the first race of the day for third and fourth category riders, three CCRT riders were in the middle of the action.
But, after letting a breakaway group of six escape in a race dogged by horrible weather conditions, the CCRT members ran out of time over the 35-mile race in their chase.
Junior rider Harry Browning led the CCRT riders home, just being beaten in the bunch sprint to take eight overall, with Darren Howitt and Nick Fry finishing slightly further back in the bunch.
In the Elite race, torrential rain did its best to spoil the party as CCRT had a strong team of six riders.
International rider Kieran Frend was a lone escapee for most of the race, until a small breakaway group of six riders - which included two CCRT riders - captured him on the last lap.
But a last half lap lone breakaway thwarted plans for a CCRT dominated finish, Blake Cowley nipped off the front to chase the leader to claim second, Danny Harris took fourth in the sprint with Matt Nell ninth.
Steve Guymer, Ben Last and Carl Dyson all finished in the chasing pack.
Next Sunday sees a strong CCRT turnout for the East Midland road race championships, to be held at Ticknall south of Derby. Start is at 9.30am for the third and fourth category race over 40 miles, and 12.30pm for the start of the 80-mile Elite race.
