Curtain comes down on rugby at Stonegravels

The curtain came down on 85 years of rugby at Chesterfield Panthers ground last weekend.

The Stonegravels ground, alongside the old A61, has hosted rugby since 1927 but the last games have been played and the site will be redeveloped for housing.

The action kicked off on Saturday with a ladies game followed by an old boys clash.

Finally, a select Captain’s XV took on the current first team – and Times photographer Marisa Cashill was there to capture the action.

Sunday saw a full programme of junior rugby at Stonegravels.

Chesterfield Panthers will kick off the 2012/13 season at their newly-constructed base at Dunston.
