Langwith aim to build bridges with community

The club is taking part in the scheme along with over 2,000 others who have already registered to take part in the annual three-day even.

The event, which runs from April 1-3, will see facilities rejuvenated and prepared ahead of the impending new season.

Entering its 14th year, tens of thousands of players, members and volunteers will come together to help give back to clubs across England and Wales during the weekend.

Club projects range from simple paint jobs and sight-screen cleaning to brand new changing rooms, function rooms and new pavilions

As far as Langwith are concerned, they are aiming to ensure the local community is fully involved with this year’s scheme.

Langwith CC Cricket Force co-ordinator Nathan Marples said: “It’s basically just about cleaning up the field and facilities.

“With us being a small club, we’re limited to what we can do.

“If people can offer their skills we can make use of those skills.

“Just turn up any time after 9am on the days and we’ll see what can be done.

“I think this is the third year we’ve done it.

“Last year was just a case of painting the pavilion and we’ve now got it in club colours.

“We are hoping to deal with an overgrown hedge that’s full of weeds.

“If we can get that grassed over, and get some benches put in between the trees we can hopefully get some more people watching.”

Nathan insists that more people watching and playing for the club is the end goal.

He said: “We’re hoping through Cricket Force that local people will get involved and volunteer around their local area.

“Hopefully we can get them interested in the club.

“We do have a limited amount of people so all help is welcome.”

On the field the club is preparing for a busy season as they get set to return to the Bassetlaw League.

Nathan added: “We did have a few years out of the Bassetlaw league and this is our first year back in it.

“We’re still after a few more players because we’ve got about 16-18 players signed up.

“We’re looking for anybody that wants to get back into cricket to get in touch with us.”
