Derbyshire profit from generous Gloucestershire fielding

Derbyshire profited from some generous Gloucestershire fielding on the second morning of the LV= County Championship match at Bristol.

Three catches went down as the visitors progressed in bright sunshine from 24 without loss at the start to 118 for one by lunch in reply to the home side’s 275.

Geraint Jones spilled a straightforward slip catch offered by Ben Slater from the first ball of the day, sent down by James Fuller, and the opener went on to be 51 not out at the interval.

Billy Godleman survived more difficult chances to Chris Dent at second slip and Liam Norwell at fine leg in the same Matt Taylor over, before being caught behind off Norwell for 44 with the total on 88.

Slater reached his half-century off 114 balls, with 8 fours, to put Derbyshire in a strong position going into the afternoon session. Martin Guptill was unbeaten on 17 at lunch.
