Derbyshire in command as Northants’ reply collapses

Derbyshire have taken a firm grip on the Division Two match at Derby after Northants collapsed to 122 for 6 in reply to the home side’s 343 at lunch on the second day.

Tom Taylor took three of the wickets to fall to leave the visitors still needing another 72 runs to reach the follow-on target of 194.

Yesterday’s record-breaking century maker Matt Critchley was in the action again taking the catch at mid-wicket to dismiss nightwatchman Azharullah in the first over of the morning.

Derbyshire’s bowlers made better use of the conditions and there was worrying news for Northants regarding skipper Alex Wakely who has yet to bat after injuring a hand fielding on the first day.
