Both bowlers then quickly picked up their second wicket of the game, Briggs (2-26) and Spencer (2-17) helping reduce the home side to 20-4.

New overseas player Anthony Mosca was next to get in on the act with his first wicket for the club, reducing the score to 55-5.

It was soon 78-7 as Mosca (2-27) picked up his second and Andy Gwatkin (1-19) got a wicket as Denby were on the ropes. However, Greg Cork (63) guided his side to 153 all out in the 48th over, there still being time for Dan Robbins (1-21) and Alex Mace (2-24) to get in on the wickets.

The Alfreton batsmen would have been confident of chasing that total down and ,with 33 put on for the first wicket, they made a good start.

However, the three quick wickets of Mace (8), Ryan Bramwell (0) and John Aspinall (7) reduced the score to 49-3. Two more wickets were to follow soon after and at 75-5 where Mosca (40) fell, who had been holding the innings together, Alfreton were staring down the barrel.

The rest of the innings went Denby’s way and eventually a run out ended the game with the score on 105 and the home side running out 48-run winners. Alfreton’s next game is back at the Impact Oval on Saturday where they host Alvaston & Boulton before starting their T20 campaign against Dunstall on Monday.
