Hayfield’s Matt Higginbottom has signed an incremental contract with Derbyshire County Cricket Club for the 2014 campaign.
Higginbottom made his County Championship debut against Sussex in August, going on to claim ten wickets in three senior appearances.
The 23-year-old achieved season-best figures of 3-59 in a win over Middlesex at the County Ground.
He was also named Second XI Player of the Year after claiming 32 wickets in all competitions last term.
Higginbottom joins fellow Academy graduate Ben Slater in signing a deal. Head coach Karl Krikken said: “It’s great that we can offer contracts to two talented youngsters from our academy.”
News of Higginbottom’s deal follows that of Buxton’s Johnny Marsden, who recently signed a summer 2014 contract with Derbyshire.
