Cricket: Hathersage finish on top against Bakewell

A much-weakened Bakewell X1 failed to record their second win of the season, as they lost out by 30 runs to Hathersage.

On the first glorious day of the season, Bakewell’s cobbled together attack were badly let down by a number of dropped catches in this Yorkshire and Derbyshire League Division Two match.

Having had two consecutive matches fall foul of the unseasonal weather, a lack of match practice was evident in Bakewell’s game.

Despite these errors, Hathersage were restricted to a total of 171-9 with the two youngsters Tom Ford and Jack Madin bowling creditable stints.

In reply Bakewell put up a valiant fight before being dismissed for 141. Dave Hadfield led the resistance with a gritty 66 but could not find a partner to see the team to victory.
