Chesterfield Cricket Lovers pay tribute to Donald Carr
He was one of the county’s greatest players scoring nearly 20,000 First-Class runs at an average of 28.61 and claimed 328 wickets during his career.
He captained England at Madras in 1951-52 in his second and final appearance for his country and remains the only player from the county to captain England. He was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1960.

Hide AdAfter retiring as a player in 1962 he continued to serve the game as an administrator and served at the highest levels being Secretary of both the Test and County Cricket Board [TCCB] and the Cricket Council, and an Assistant Secretary (Cricket) of MCC.
He managed several MCC tours and later in his career served as an ICC match referee.
Chesterfield Cricket Lovers’ Society Chair, Mike Taylor paid tribute.
He said: “Donald Carr had a huge impact on the game of cricket worldwide. We in Derbyshire will remember him for his time playing for the county.

Hide Ad“He was involved in Derbyshire cricket long after he stopped playing and we are very proud that he was our Society’s very first speaker on 20 September 1963, then in his capacity as Assistant Secretary of MCC. He will be missed by many.”
