Chris Metcalf took Bristol by storm when he struck gold in Britain’s first Dual Up Hill Bike Challenge.
Metcalf, a member of Matlock Cycling Club was one of 32 top riders who took part in the challenge on Friday evening on a 200m strech of Park Street which brought the city centre to a standstill.
It was a straight knockout contest up the lung-busting hill climb and Metcalf had to cover the distance five times before becoming the first Red Bull Hill Chasers champion.
The event attracted around 2,500 spectators and the fastest time was around 22 seconds.
In the final, Metcalf demonstrated his class by defeating Paul Derrick, a feat which won him a golden bike in addition to the title.
