Bishop's late charge brings home points for Andy Moore team

The consistent Andy Bishop maintained his fine sprinting form to bring home the points for the Staveley-based Andy Moore Autocentres/J.E.James Racing Team at the Shrewsbury Closed Circuit Race.

Bishop was part of a four-strong squad, also comprising Dean Watson, Aaron Chambers-Smith and Harry Buxton, that the Moore outfit took to do battle on a tight and challenging circuit.

And he produced a bruising final charge, forcing his way through a packed peloton to hit the front of the sprint pack and almost claim victory. Giving it maximum gas, he was only denied in the scrappy closing stages, but still thundered home to finish an excellent fifth.

Earlier in the race, Watson had also made an attempted bid for freedom from the peloton, emulating his successful breakaway at York the previous weekend. But he was unable to forge a useful partnership with other breakaway riders and, after several laps, the advantage diminished.

Buxtoin also put in the odd charge to fire up the race, but it was left to Worksop rider Bishop to have the biggest impact.

Team manager Moore said: “The lads did a great job to battle through a scrappy race. Deano was awesome, riding the wheels off to try and force a break, but Bish was the star. It was a proper blood-and-guts display to get through the traffic. He was like a missile through the final chicane.

“It was another great weekend for us, and the team spirit remains amazing.”
