Big field of runners take part in Nationals race

The National Cross-Country Championships were held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham last week, attracting thousands of runners.

In the Senior Men’s race, Buxton fielded five competitors, with Rob White first home in 400th place.

He was followed by Richard Bouglas (1,281), Ross Martland (1,331), Pete Bailey (1,434) and Chris Bent (1,640).

Gayle Johnson finished 422nd and Angela Bent 586th in the Senior Ladies’ event.

The Under-13 Boys were represented by Will Tighe (104th), Elliot Meylan (111th), Lucas Parker (187th) and Jacob Buckley (331st), with the boys finishing as 27th fastest team overall.

At Blackpool, Jason Bennett had a good run despite the strong headwinds in the Great North Western Half Marathon, recording a time of one hour and 24 minutes, 37 seconds whilst Elizabeth Nocton, in training for the London Marathon in April, finished in 2 hours and 44 seconds.

Again at the coast and in enduring tough headwinds, Steve Radcliffe ran 1.23.32 in the ten-mile race at Rhyl, while Bev Golden came home in 1.28.21 and Hayley Errington in 1.42.45.

In the inaugural Lyme Park Parkrun last Saturday, Richard Goff finished in 27.56, Rachel Dowle in 30.25 and Clare Bradshaw 34.29.

Other recent Parkrun results are: Sheila Bradley 23.22 at Congleton, Steve Claye 21.57 and Pete Bailey at 23.03 at Marple, and Emma Havenhand 25.45 and Dave Nutton 28.16 at Sheffield Hallam.
