Rachel Campbell starred with 22 points as Encon Derbyshire Gems defeated Nottingham Trent Wildcats 91-49 to launch their season with a cup win.
Debutants Jo Claydon and Laurie Causeur scored 14 and 11 points.
Campbell scored 14 points in the first quarter and a host of steals from Kendal James saw the Gems lead 27–21.
Jade Clemenson dominate rebounds and smart baskets from Helena Palmer, Jo Claydon and captain Kate Loftus took the Gems to a 49-38 interval lead.
New guard Nerea Iniguez delivered clever assists in the third quarter as the lead was stretched to 70-41.
Steph Ogdon was great defensively, helping Kendal James. Helena Palmer and Kate Loftus finished well on the break.
The Gems moved to a 91–49 victory and will face Birmingham in the next round.

Coach Pete Kelly was very happy with the effort and skill his team put into the game. “We were worthy winners it took us time to settle but when we did we started to grow as a group. This team has great potential and will continue to improve,” he said.
