Barry looking forward to Swindon return

The Chesterfield defender played 64 times for the Robins, scoring once, before moving to Derbyshire in the summer.

And now, as the Spireites prepare to head south in search of vital points, Barry is keen to see his new side’s fortunes improve.

He said: “I’m looking forward to going back - it’s the first time I’ve had to do it in my career.

“Swindon are doing very well at the moment, but we need to focus on ourselves and making sure we are giving them problems.”

Despite being a full-back, Barry says he and others in non-striker roles have been encouraged to get forward more often as Chesterfield seek the crucial goals that could make such a difference to the season.

He said: “You can’t always rely on strikers, as a team we need to score more form elsewhere. We know what we’re good at and we’re learning everyday.

“The gaffer has given us fullbacks the license to go forward. But he reminds us that are job is to defend first.

“We played well at Bradford, they started brightly and we need to adapt to that in future. I thought we were good going forward.”

Barry also added a few words to the glowing tributes paid to retiring goalkeeper Tommy Lee, who announced he was quitting the game this week due to injury.

Barry added: “Tommy will be a massive miss, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve met in football.

“It’s unfortunate that he’s had to retire, but he knows his body better than anyone and has our full support.”
