Matlock Baileans firsts finally secured their first win of the Midlands Premier Division season with a 3-2 success at fellow strugglers Sutton Coldfield.
Matlock took a while to settle and were punished for their lack of organisation when Sutton scored with a shot that deflected off Ruth Whittaker and past Alison Millyard.
Matlock soon got to grips with Sutton’s style of play but remained behind at half-time after struggling to convert several short corners.
Matlock made a positive start to the second-half, upping the tempo and soon rewarded with a equaliser as a well-struck short corner from Rachel Moor was also defected in off a defender’s stick.
Matlock kept the momentum going and soon added two more well-worked goals from open play by Iris Kleckova and Nina Smedley.
Sutton then pushed Matlock back and nicked another goal to take it to 3-2, but Matlock held on to gain the points.
Baileans host Boots (Notts) at Wirksworth Leisure Centre on Saturday, 11.30am start.
Matlock’s thirds were at home in the second round of the cup after a bye and faced an inter-club clash against Matlock seconds.
The thirds had a very young side on display but held out well to half-time with the score at 0-0, Chris Poyser in goal dealing with most threats.
The seconds finally went in front early in the second-half, Grace turning home from close range.
Kate Meynell then struck the second following a short corner and that proved to be the last goal of the game as the seconds won 2-0.
Baileans fourths ran out 3-1 winners over Derby fourths in the Derbyshire League Plate.
Baileans went in front through Leila Pankhurst and added a second through Elise Charlton, wrapping up a fine first-half with Beth Hamill-Keays on target.
Derby pulled a goal back in the second-half but Matlock were comfortable winners.
Baileans fifths put in a fine performance against Amber Valley Hornets in the League Cup but lost out to a single goal, players of the match being Jo Wilmot and Sarah English.
