Bad day for H&S

Holmewood & Spital CC 100 all out, Welbeck 101-1

Holmewood & Spital travelled to Welbeck on Sunday where they last registered a victory in 1987.

On winning the toss, skipper Ryalls surprisingly elected to bat.

Ryalls opened the batting and was first out when he was bowled by Walker in the third over and he was followed shortly after when Barnaby who was LBW to Morley for two.

Grant and Saville took the score the 32 before they suffered a monumental collapse. Five wickets were lost for only ten runs following some strange shot selection by a number of players.

From 42-7 they recovered somewhat following sensible batting by Danny Ashley (23) and Adam Howitt (17) who along with Toby Blair (5) and a fair number of extras at least enable H&S to post a score of some respectability.

A score of 100 was always going to be difficult to defend. This was compounded by generally poor fielding as the visitors put down four catches. They dropped opener Scrivens on three seperate occasions and he remained at the crease as Welbeck comfortably reached their target with 12 overs to spare.

James Taylor was the only wicket taker and Holmewood & Spital now find themselves in a relegation battle with a vital away game at Blackwell to come on Sunday.
